When SNK added color to King of Fighters for the NeoGeo Pocket Color, it also updated the
game to include characters and events from the NeoGeo version of King of Fighters '98. The TFT LCD screen removed the blur that was evident in R-1, and the addition of color added depth to the characters and backgrounds. If you take away the gigantic bosses and insane background animation from Metal Slug, what's left over is a fairly fun side-scrolling action game for the NGPC. There were plenty of enemy soldiers to shoot, and just like in the arcade game, you could hop into the tank and submarine for vehicular battles. Replay value was deepened by the ability to choose different level paths and by the S-continue mode, which allowed you to start a new game with the life bar from the previous game.
