And I hardly did justice to Eguchi’s masterful character designs, or for that matter, the masterful music. The soundtrack for this show is just so immaculate, and it was advised by Shinichiro fucking Watanabe! It uses genres and styles you almost never hear in anime, and hardly for the sole sake of standing out or being pretentious. It just works. It sounds like seminal stage progrock, or some weird Close To The Edge stuff, and I love it. There’s a subtle yet worthwhile distinction to be made between something which is trite and something which is simply commonplace, and I think Sonny Boy has more than enough heart and soul in its creation to excuse any level of unoriginality you may perceive in its coming-of-age themes, and if you tried to call these audiovisuals anything close to lackluster, they’d scoff.
Thank you for reading.

She impulsively decides to ditch her class to try and cycle to the mountains in the hopes of catching up to the young man in the abandoned town (oh dear). Things go from bad to worse when Suzume reaches the abandoned site and discovers a mystical door that leads to another realm and accidentally uproots a kaname-ishi (spirit rock) that turns into a kitten in Suzume’s hands before bolting away. It's at this moment that the man of Suzume’s literal dreams shows up in time for the magic door to suddenly burst open as a terrifying dark force that barges its way into Suzume’s realm. All this takes place before we’ve hit the 30-minute mark of this two-hour saga, mind you. Photo: ©2022SNTFP After his unsuccessful attempt to close the portal of doom and shut away the sinister force, the stranger introduces himself to Suzume as Sota (voiced by Hokuto Matsumura) and explains that he’s on a mission to locate more doors like the one they just encountered and lock them all up. Before Sota can set out to continue on his quest, however, the spirit stone-turned-kitten from earlier reappears at Suzume’s bedroom window and turns Sota into a child-sized chair. Knowing that Sota would struggle to survive his mission as a small chair, Suzume resolves to accompany him on his journey and help him return to his human form. What follows is a wild-goose chase across Japan, where Suzume and Chair Sota bounce from Miyazaki to Shikoku to Shin-Kobe, locking up magical doors as they go. From the get-go, it was clear that ‘Suzume no Tojimari’ would essentially be a retelling of Shinkai’s last two films. The symbolic red string of fate, which Shinkai slipped into ‘Your Name’ as the female protagonist's hair accessory, makes a discernible reappearance here as part of Suzume’s school uniform. Even the strange in-film product advertisement for McDonald’s makes an off-putting reprise. Shizuku greatly loves her younger sister, Shiho, and dotes on her constantly. Vivid BAD SQUAD[edit] Logo of Vivid BAD SQUAD A top-level hip-hop, teen pop, electronic and street music group formed to surpass a legend. They were originally two separate musical duos before their merger: Vivids and Bad Dogs. Their SEKAI, the Street SEKAI, consists of an alleyway with walls covered in graffiti and concert posters. They are initially supported by Hatsune Miku, who takes on the form of a street dancer, alongside MEIKO, who takes on the form of a café waitress, and Kagamine Len, who takes on the form of a disc jockey. Their image color is Vivid Red, and they represent passion. Kohane Azusawa (小豆沢 こはね, Azusawa Kohane) Voiced by: Akina[9] The leader of Vivid BAD SQUAD, Kohane is a shy first year girl who lacks self-confidence. She became interested in music after watching An perform at a live music café. The two later formed the unit "Vivids" to perform at different events. Kohane also enjoys photography and usually looks after her father's pet snake, Count Pearl. An Shiraishi (白石 杏, Shiraishi An) Voiced by: Tomomi Jiena Sumi[9] An is the outgoing and lively daughter of Ken, one of the artists headlining the "RAD WEEKEND" event.
