will by making direct eye contact with them. Using his newfound power, Lelouch attempts to overthrow the Britannian
empire and create a world where his sister Nunally can live peacefully. I
often see people compare the plot to Death Note, and I can
kind of see the comparison
since both series are about genius high school students who were given supernatural powers and live double lives, with the intent of “making the world a better place” according to their own ideals of justice. But despite these comparisons, they both feel drastically different from one another. Both are completely different genres; Death Note is more of a psychological crime thriller, whereas Code Geass has more political themes as well as mecha battles. But that’s enough about Death Note, for now, we can talk about that anime another day.
Code Geass is full of awesome mech fights that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat, but they aren’t even the main focus of the show! Half of the runtime is spent getting to know Lelouch as a character, as well as his motives for his rebellion. He’s quite a complex character, but I find him quite relatable at times, even if he has supernatural powers. Going back to the Death Note comparison, I feel like Lelouch is more likeable than Light Yagami. With Lelouch, it feels like he has some level of compassion (especially for his sister Nunally), whereas Light tends to be more self-centred. Lelouch is the most interesting character in the show, right next to Suzaku Kururugi, who seems to be “close friends” with Lelouch.
Episode 10 throws all subtlety out of the window and pours male gaze all over the show, not to mention indulging in classy humor such as flashing a girl. It’s not even the more sensual kind of fanservice like episode 6’s Utaha scene where she
puts on her stockings. It’s the point where the show stops trying and just revels in all the trashy LN tropes we all love and “cleverly” comments on all of them. This show is completely in love with itself and all of the trashy things that it comments on.
The bottom line: if you’re watching
this because you heard it was by White Album 2’s author, don’t bother. If you’re watching this expecting a trashy, fanservice-y show, you’re better off watching an actual trashy, fanservice-y show, because shows like those don’t bother pretending that they’re not trashy, fanservice-y crap.
Her sister, Freya, joins up with the bronze knights to stop her. And the God Warriors fight to defend her because they just assume she's right and that Freya has been brainwashed or something. At one point, Hyoga says "helping us would be directly helping Freya" to the God Warrior who was in
love with her. The God Warrior's response was "I have had enough of your bullshit. " That level of idiot ball shenanigans is, again, not even backed up by good fights. By the end of the arc, I was literally watching it 1. 5x speed for a few minutes at the beginning of the episode, skipping to the 15 minute mark to see that the villain had turned the tables, and then skipped to the end to see the bronze knight come out on top.
Over and over again. Over and over again. Over and over again. No setups.
