[10] Plot[edit] Main article: List of Hunter × Hunter characters The story follows a young boy named Gon Freecss, who was told all his life that both his parents were dead. But when he learns from Kite, an apprentice of his father Ging Freecss, that he is still alive and has since become an accomplished Hunter, Gon leaves his home on Whale Island (くじら島, Kujira Tō) to take the Hunter Examination (ハンター試験, Hantā Shiken) in order to become a Hunter like him. [11][12][13] During the exam, Gon meets and befriends three of the other applicants: Kurapika, the last remaining member of the Kurta clan who wishes to become a Hunter in order to avenge his clan and recover their scarlet-glowing eyes that were plucked from their corpses by a band of thieves known as the Phantom Troupe; Leorio, a prospective physician who, in order to pay for medical school, desires the financial benefits that Hunters receive; and Killua Zoldyck, another twelve-year-old boy who has left his former life as a member of the world's most notorious assassin family. [12][13][5] Among many other examinees, Gon continuously encounters Hisoka, a mysterious and deadly transmuter who takes an interest in him. After many trials together, Gon and his friends end up passing the exam except for Killua, who fails after killing another applicant due to the influence of his brother, Illumi, and runs away to his family's estate in shame. After Gon and the others convince Killua to rejoin their side, Leorio and Kurapika depart temporarily for their own personal reasons, while Gon and Killua set for the Heavens Arena (天空闘技場, Tenkū Tōgijō), a skyscraper where thousands of martial artists compete daily in fighting tournaments, seeking to improve themselves and gain monetary rewards.

They interpret that Seita's character embodies working towards healing historical trauma and victimization, because it is his nationalistic pride and selfishness which ultimately contributed to his sister's death. [33] Release[edit] Theatrical[edit] The film was released on 16 April 1988, over 20 years from the publication of the short story. [9] The initial Japanese theatrical release was accompanied by Hayao Miyazaki's light-hearted My Neighbor Totoro as a double feature. While the two films were marketed toward children and their parents, the starkly tragic nature of Grave of the Fireflies turned away many audiences. However, Totoro merchandise, particularly the stuffed animals of Totoro and Catbus, sold extremely well after the film and made overall profits for the company to the extent that it stabilized subsequent productions of Studio Ghibli. Grave of the Fireflies is the only theatrical Studio Ghibli feature film prior to From Up on Poppy Hill to which Disney never had North American distribution rights, since it was not produced by Ghibli for parent company Tokuma Shoten but for Shinchosha, the publisher of the original short story (although Disney has the Japanese home video distribution rights themselves, thus replacing the film's original Japanese home video distributor, Bandai Visual). [34] It was one of the last Studio Ghibli films to get an English-language premiere by GKIDS. [35] Home media[edit] Grave of the Fireflies was released in Japan on VHS by Buena Vista Home Entertainment under the Ghibli ga Ippai Collection on 7 August 1998. On 29 July 2005, a DVD release was distributed through Warner Home Video. Walt Disney Studios Japan released the complete collector's edition DVD on 6 August 2008. WDSJ released the film on Blu-ray twice on 18 July 2012: one as a single release, and one in a two-film set with My Neighbor Totoro (even though Disney has never owned the North American rights, only the Japanese rights).
Fam.

I really like the narrative of the anime. Each episode usually ends with some kind of big moment or twist, that leaves you wanting more and to keep watching. It feels great to see what Lelouch has planned next, and what happens as a result of that. There are moments when he’ll suffer the consequences of his actions, and it’ll leave him questioning if he should continue down the path of rebellion or go back to his ordinary life.
I wasn’t too big on the art style at first, but it’s starting to grow on me. The character designs were done by CLAMP, who put a lot of details into the eyes, which makes sense considering how Lelouch’s Geass works. The characters are all made to be really tall and thin, which I hated at first, but now I don’t mind it so much. The mech designs look really cool too. The animation is done by Sunrise, who also did the animation for the Gundam series, which checks out because the fight scenes are animated super well! Some fight scenes had me on the edge of my seat just from how well-animated they were.
The background music of the show is kind of forgettable, but there were some tracks that I liked and felt fit the show well. Namely the opera songs, like All Hail Britannia, fit the tone of the anime so well.
