Things really weren't the same after that. I really wanted to like this show - I really DID like this show - and I was willing to overlook the suboptimal writing if not for the greatly disappointing final episodes.
Sometimes many shining moments can be undermined by a terrible few. I believe that to be the case for Tengoku Daimakyou. As much as I enjoyed nearly every aspect about the show up until that point, I cannot ignore the ending. Reviewer’s Rating: 6 What did you think of this review? It is a testament to how stale anime has become if Tengoku Daimakyou is considered great. It is not quite awful, with strong
production values throughout and clear
artistic effort put into it. The major issues with the pacing, coupled with the poor story and characters that we are shown, land it as a high 3 out of 10.
The short TV anime squanders so much of its limited runtime on
boring and pointless scenes. Not the side stories; such diversions are welcome in this kind of show. However, the scenes showing the children in 'heaven' were excessively long and dull.

Ippo and everyone else was then thrown out by Takamura as he was unable to rest with everyone watching him. Spirit of a Weed Arc Ippo getting his shoe stepped on by Makino. When Ippo went to the Kamogawa gym, he witnessed Takamura go through with an earlier promise by cutting Aoki's hair into Papaya's since he did not win. Back at his house, when Ippo and Itagaki watched a commercial featuring Takamura, Ippo mentioned how despite Takamura's eccentric nature, they
train with an inedible person. He was then shocked to see Aoki having a commercial as "Broccoman", influenced by his new haircut. Later, Ippo was worried about Itagaki being nervous about the East Japan Rookie King Tournament, which Kimura suggested to him that it has to do with the match against
Imai being close. Ippo discovered the reason for Itagaki's nervousness when he went to the Kōrakuen Hall with him and watched the match to see who Itagaki would fight next, with Makino defeating his opponent with Flicker Jabs. Walking away from the building, Ippo, Itagaki, and Nanako were approached by Makino. After Imai also arrived and tensions rose, Ippo stepped in to diffuse the situation. Makino recognised Ippo as the champion, and stepped on his foot as he walked away warning Ippo that he won't be able to ignore him. Later, Ippo, Aoki, Kimura, and Takamura bet on who would win the East Japan Rookie King Tournament, with Ippo betting on Itagaki to win.
