The characters are definitely what makes Horimiya so great, but is that the only aspect of what makes this anime great? Definitely no.
CloverWorks is gaining a reputation because of their well directed anime. The Horimiya anime (much like Kimetsu no Yaiba) is a lesson in how to properly adapt a manga series. The anime’s direction, pacing and the excellent voice cast elevates every scene to the next levels. Ishisama is a great director who knows what he’s doing. The opening of Horimiya is possibly the most well-directed opening of Winter 2021. CloverWorks is quickly becoming one of my favourite studios. The camera work in this anime has been pleasant. Especially the moments of vulnerabilities, I was wondering how will they handle that, but it was handled amazingly. When the background goes white and vibrant watercolors shift their silhouettes, you know that they’ve given extra care to the more dramatic scenes of Horimiya. Horimiya is a treat, beautifully animated by CloverWorks. Nicknamed The Reaper for his habit of keeping a box full of makeshift dogtags crafted out of a small piece of each dead comrade's Juggernaut, which he plans to bury when the war is over. Shin is known for his ruthlessness against both enemies and allies. It is rumored that previous Handlers who have dealt with him have gone insane and left the unit, retired, or even committed suicide for unknown reasons. Vladilena Milizé (ヴラディレーナ・ミリーゼ, Vuradirēna Mirīze) Voiced by: Ikumi Hasegawa[3] (Japanese); Suzie Yeung[4] (English) Commonly called Lena (レーナ, Rēna). An officer in the San Magnolian military who got promoted to Major at just 16 years old thanks to a mixture of her skills and family connections. Lena has a habit of treating her 86 subordinates like humans, unlike other Handlers who treat the 86 as disposable objects. Lena is the newly-assigned Handler of the Republic's "Spearhead" squadron. Frederica Rosenfort (フレデリカ・ローゼンフォルト, Furederika Rōzenforuto) Voiced by: Misaki Kuno[8] (Japanese); Kimberley Anne Campbell[9] (English) The adopted daughter of Ernst. Her full name is Augusta Frederica Adel-Adler (アウグスタ・フレデリカ・アデルアドラー, Augusuta Furederika Aderuadorā), the last Empress of the Giad Empire before it collapsed, with the ability to see the past and present of anyone she meets. She decides to join Shin and his crew at the Officer Training school in order to end the suffering of her knight, Kiriya, who was turned into a Legion Shepherd. Spearhead Squadron[edit] Raiden Shuga (ライデン・シュガ, Raiden Shuga) / Wehrwolf (ヴェアヴォルフ, Veavorufu) Voiced by: Seiichiro Yamashita[10] (Japanese); Jonah Scott[4] (English) The Executive Officer and vice-captain of the Spearhead Squadron.
Togashi began creating YuYu Hakusho around November 1990, basing the series on his interests in the occult and horror films and an influence of Buddhist mythology. The manga was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 1990 to July 1994. It consists of 175 chapters collected in 19 tankōbon volumes. In North America, the manga is licensed by Viz Media, who serialized it in Shonen Jump from January 2003 to January 2010. An anime adaptation consisting of 112 television episodes was directed by Noriyuki Abe and co-produced by Fuji Television, Yomiko Advertising, and Studio Pierrot. The anime series originally aired on Japan's Fuji TV network from October 1992 to December 1994, and was later licensed in North America by Funimation in 2001, where it aired on Cartoon Network blocks including Adult Swim and later Toonami. The series has also been published and broadcast in various other countries around the world. The YuYu Hakusho franchise has spawned two animated films, a series of original video animations (OVAs), a live-action television series, audio albums, video games, and other merchandise. YuYu Hakusho has been well received; the manga has over 78 million copies in circulation worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time. It also won the 39th Shogakukan Manga Award for the shōnen category in 1993. The animated series won the Animage Anime Grand Prix prize for best anime in 1994 and 1995.
