Dans ce roman, on va suivre une
jeune fille de dix-sept ans, Mao Mao qui mène une vie dangereuse. Formée dès son plus jeune âge par un apothicaire des bas-fonds de la capitale, elle se retrouve enlevée et vendue comme servante dans le quartier des femmes du palais impérial. Pour échapper à la mort dans cette forteresse coupée du monde extérieur où complots et machinations se succèdent, la jeune fille doit cacher ses connaissances bref, se fondre dans la masse. Mais quand les morts suspectes de princes nouveau-nés mettent la cour en émoi, la passion de Mao Mao pour son art reprend le dessus. À force d'observation, elle découvre le pot aux roses et se retrouve repérée par Jinshi, un mystérieux haut fonctionnaire à la beauté étrange. Devinant ses talents, il la promeut goûteuse personnelle d'une des favorites de l'empereur. Or, au beau milieu de ce nid de serpents, le moindre faux pas pourrait être fatal à la jeune fille
Commençons par l'intrigue, elle est tout simplement palpitante. Comme je l'ai dis un peu plus haut, on ne voit pas les pages défiler. L'intrigue est très
prenante et on meurt d'envie d'en découvrir plus, toujours plus.

The one saving grace for this anime is the cast. If the main group didn’t mesh as well with each other as it does, then this anime would've been a lot worse. The characters are still really enjoyable to watch and we get some development on them throughout the season, but unfortunately, the
comedic timing on a lot of the jokes just wasn’t
that good which makes me downgrade the score a little.

I’ve got only one word to describe the story this season and it's boring. Unfortunately, the serious directions that this anime tries to take dont hit that well, and with the antagonists being kind of goofy when the jokes dont hit, the show just becomes uninteresting and bland to watch. It’s great that highly respected titles in the anime community are making a comeback after years of waiting, and that might inspire future sequels to come, for shows like No Game No Life, or Land of the Lustrous for example.
