I was writing an article about the origin of Hello World and, seeing as this answer is the first result on google yet seemed to contradict the BCPL manual, decided to email Prof. Kernighan myself. A fuller response can be found here, but the gist of it was that he first wrote "Hello World" as an example for an internal B manual at Bell Labs. You probably just switched BCPL and B since the latter is a sort of successor to the former.

But is . it the masterpiece that many light novel readers claim it to be? Not even close
For the record, I haven’t read the light novels nor do I plan on doing so. Biases arising from the source material shouldn’t factor in when you're scoring an anime adaptation, so rest assured this review is coming entirely from a first-time 86 material viewer.
Story: 4/10
There are things I like about 86’s story, and lots of things I dislike. Let’s get the bad news out of the way first.
I don’t like 86’s worldbuilding: it’s done very poorly and while some may claim it builds “mystery” or “suspense” for reveals, I’d argue that it’s counterproductive in a medium like anime which progresses much more slowly than readable material you can easily binge. Unless you’re inhuman and watch anime at 4x speed. We don’t learn anything about the Legion or the outside world until the final few episodes really. The only setting we know about is Magnolia, and it’s explored pretty poorly. Retrieved October 10, 2018. ^ Loo, Egan (December 2, 2012). "10 Top-Selling Manga in Japan by Series: 2012".
