But the comedy falls flat for me, as it only consists of "he is ugly", "he is socially inept", "magic is real" and "he lost touch with the preset" jokes.
That is so much wasted potential as the same premise can be used to create a political high-stakes drama around the concept of magic and the clarifications of god. Or it could've even learn more into the slice-of-life aspects of the main cast and how they abuse their magic uncle for their gains. But instead it goes for probably the worst lane. Telling a story where we know the ending from the get-go. Other aspects like the possibility of aching to return to the world where he spent 50% of his life and even more percentage of active conscious living are completely ignored and only show that there was very little thought put into the whole thing.
In the end Isekai Ojisan has a very stale humour and leans way to hard into the storybook aspects of its premise to result in an uninteresting generic fantasy blurp without special characters or action. Everything feels generic and only as if the writers where checking a list to box things off. Reviewer’s Rating: 3 What did you think of this review? The series aired from July to October 2021. Sonny Boy utilizes non-traditional storytelling, occasionally skipping over major events and instead focusing on various characters' reactions to those events. While fantasy elements are present, the series primarily uses its setting to explore psychological themes such as identity, social expectation, freedom, and loneliness. [2] Plot[edit] Midway through a seemingly endless day of summer vacation, third-year middle school student Nagara and his class, along with transfer student Nozomi and the aloof and mysterious Mizuho, are suddenly transported to an alternate dimension. The group calls the new dimension "This World", and finds it has its own set of rules and physics. Over time, while trying to get back home, they realize that they have individual supernatural abilities, but also find it difficult to navigate their own interpersonal relationships. The class later splits into two groups due to internal conflicts. As both the groups continue journeying to find their way back home, they discover many other students who have spent thousands of years in other "This Worlds". [117] An audiobook adaptation of its novel will be published by Yen Audio in July 2024. [118] Live-action film[edit] On September 27, 2017, producer J. J. Abrams and screenwriter Eric Heisserer announced that they were working on a live-action remake of Your Name to be released by Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Productions, alongside the original film's producers, Toho, who will handle the film's distribution in Japan. [119] The film was being written by Eric Heisserer, who revealed that the Japanese right holders want it to be made from the western point of view. [120] In February 2019, Marc Webb signed on to direct the remake.
