Aside from Accel World, he was requested to get his earlier work, Sword Art Online, published by ASCII Media Works. [4] He agreed and withdrew his web novel versions. [7] For the protagonist Kirito, Kawahara was asked if Kirito's personality and character were based on his own; he answered that he usually does not put aspects of himself into his characters, and jokingly remarked: "but if I had to say there was a point of similarity between Kirito and myself, it is the fact that neither of us are good at forming parties. We [both] tend to play solo in these games a lot. "[8] He also noted that the female characters in the story were not based on anyone he knew in the real world, stating: "I don't usually make a character, setting, or anything before I start writing. As I write the story, the girls become what they are now. So, somehow, I don't know exactly, but somehow, my subliminal idea or some hidden emotion creates the characters to be strong and capable. " He added that he wrote the series to demonstrate that he views online gaming not as a social ill or escape from real life, but rather decided to show games in a more positive light in his light novels. Kawahara also noted that the character of Asuna might have been created a little too perfectly. [8] Publication[edit] See also: List of Sword Art Online light novels After Kawahara's request for Sword Art Online to be published was approved,[4] he started working with illustrator abec on the light novel series. The first volume was published in print on April 10, 2009,[9] and 27 volumes have been published as of October 7, 2022.

Even though, there are more outlandish animes with more interesting concepts. The plot was super run of the mill and the story really lacked tension.
Art
The animation is slick and the art style is unique if anything
Sound
. Opening is pretty neat, nothing else memorable
Character
Paper thin characters. I did not find anyone interesting other than Reigen. I was not invested into the characters
Enjoyment
If you want to turn off your brain to watch a silly show, then there are better options. I kinda stopped caring during some episodes and sometimes I fell asleep. There are a few decent episodes but I found myself rather bored most of the time.

However, instead of then hunting some slimes or discovering his affinity to magic, the show throws him into a world that’s in the middle of war. And I mean real war, not a one man power flex spotlight. So the protagonist has to learn to survive and to fight while also seeking out the girl he still hasn’t given up on. 8. The Vision of Escaflowne Since we’re already in the 90s here, we might as well mention The Vision of Escaflowne as well. It starts off with just a typical high school girl who suddenly sees a man and a dragon come out of the sky. She helps the man defeat the dragon with her Spidey senses, and somehow ends up teleporting back to his world. And his world is a bit depressing to be honest. There’s a war going on. The man is actually a prince so his head is quite valuable. And there are mechs flying around. Yuujirou has sharp tastes, and whenever attending places of refining or meant for the elite of society, he can blend right in by both dress and manner. Since Yuujirou is the strongest in the world and sees himself as a king, this may be his way of trying to act in a way becoming of a king. He's also shown to be erudite, intelligent, and well-read in various topics, some of which are pretty esoteric. During his 16th year, Yuujirou was quite different from his current self. He was much calmer, less savage and, not so bloodthirsty, most of the time defeating just his adversaries and destroying their vehicles. However, over the next two years on battlefields, Yuujirou's desire to fight and bloodlust grows exponentially and mercilessly kills everyone who stands in his way, making him the man he is today.
