They feel sympathetic, even though you know they're making the wrong choices. It's cathartic in a way to see these characters be so darkly sexual.
There are multiple ways to see every story, of course, and some may see it as a simple harem fantasy with emo elements. I see it as a scary mixture of sexuality with some of the darkest emotions humans can have. .
