The film is told in a very interesting nonlinear way, in which (like Mima) the viewer is kept in the dark about what's real and what isn't. By the end of the movie, it's still not entirely clear which scenes were just the product of Mima's delusions and which scenes were not. The film was clearly a key influence on the more recent psychological thriller Black Swan, but despite their similarities Perfect Blue is very much a unique movie. Perfect Blue is heavy on style and indecipherable at times, but it's so consistently intense and thrilling that it's well-worth watching. Show Less Show More Super Reviewer Jan 01, 2012 Wow, this film has worked miracles in my mind, I've never seen such an incredible film. It's a westernised anime that was influenced by Alfred Hitchcock, Italian Giallos and David Lynch. It got me hooked up right from the very first minute I saw the film.That being said, every time I've seen the show, I've finished it fairly quickly, and without skipping episodes (except sometimes the very boring fillers. But the latest time I rewatched it, it was with a friend who hadn't seen it yet, so we didn't skip episodes even though I'd tell her which episodes were boring and pointless).
Some of the episodes were downright painful to get through, and the anime only really picked up its pacing at the very end. However, some episodes (13 and 37) were really funny and I always enjoy watching them when I rewatch the show. Some of the ending stuff is exciting, but the whole show is a drag by comparison. It's not worth struggling through the boringness to get to the ending which is full of holes anyway.
