Let them know that you “get it. ”
And in the realm of anime, metacommentary also has its home. I’m not only referring to overall productions that have been regarded as having some kind of meta remarks or supposedly-deconstructive genre assertions like *Neon Genesis Evangelion,* but even the casual remarks that characters make in any kind of story, like the above quotation I left. These kinds of remarks get chuckles for the basic reason that we like to pat ourselves on the back for recognizing a pattern and having the thing we watch acknowledge it as such. Considering the sheer degree of prevalence the isekai genre has enjoyed ever since the early 2010s, no doubt because it provides publishers like Kadokawa a lot of money, it makes sense that isekai too would become susceptible to these kinds of remarks from its own works.
But *The Eminence in Shadow* makes the mistake of assuming that being meta is the same as being funny or a worthwhile piece of entertainment.

Adventurers gain experience points, earn loot, level up, gain skills and magic etcetera, but it all still takes place in their own actual reality. There is a magical dungeon which adventurers go to in search for treasure in order to make a living for themselves. They have to fight the local monsters found inside the dungeon in order to get the loot to drop, and in the process they level up, gain experience and become stronger. Pretty simple. It's a quite fresh take on what is otherwise a somewhat overused concept in recent years.
The story begins when a young rookie adventurer named Bell Cranel one day gets his life saved by a female swordmaster within the dungeon.
Volg retaliated with a left uppercut that lands. Ippo crouched down and threw a Gazelle Punch that Volg blocks, however, it pushed him to a corner. Ippo motioned the Dempsey Roll, and was about to throw a punch from below with it, however, Sendō got in the ring and stopped him, scolding both of the boxers as it was suppose to only be a "touch spar". Ippo agrees to be a second for Wally. Ippo slept in a room upstairs while Miguel and Wally watched over him. When Ippo got up, Miguel asked how Ippo is feeling, as they may need take him to the hospital. Ippo answered that it is only painful where Volg hit him and he was just tired from the flight. Wally asked Ippo, since he retired, if he no longer likes boxing, something Ippo taught him was fun and why he won't come back. Ippo answered that he still loves boxing, and, while he doesn't answer why he quit, he claimed that he is giving it his all to show everyone the greatness of boxing now. Ippo was surprised by Wally's excitement for his match against Ricardo. Later, Ippo told Sendō that he hopes Volg and Wally win, however, Sendō thinks it won't happen because Wally lacks bloodlust.
