Kiyotaka
Kiyotaka Ayanokouji voiced by new voice actor Shouya Chiba is one of the main characters of the series and is the main protagonist of the series. A high school freshman that in the beginning of the series was assigned to Class D Kiyotaka from initial appearances was a person that was quiet, laid back and indifferent and is someone that seems to be prefer to remain in the background and not draw attention to himself. Despite his moody and rather indifferent nature Kiyotaka is shown to be someone that can be responsible and kind and is shown to care a great deal about his friends and allies. Though not someone that has a sense of justice in him Kiyotaka is someone that hates seeing people that he knows being out in danger and would try to help them when that happens. While seemingly laid back and indifferent towards others it is noted that Kiyotaka when he becomes serious and motivated can come up with some really interesting and smart ideas that make use of his good perception skills and showcase one of his more prominent traits which is his cunning. Despite his averse to getting involved in troublesome situations Kiyotaka is shown to be very good at dealing with and managing various difficult situations which is an interesting trait about him that hints at his true personality.
As the series goes on and as Kiyotaka and the members of his class deal with one crisis after another it becomes clear that beneath his normal self Kiyotaka also has a personality that he hides and conceals from the others including his friends. In this personality which is perhaps his true one Kiyotaka’s personality is drastically different from the one that he normally exhibits. In this personality Kiyotaka is shown to be a calculating and manipulative person and also a smart one that is not above using people for his own ends. In this personality Kiyotaka’s strong intelligence and observational skills that he had to keep hidden in his default personality is now much more visible and more readily used when Kiyotaka gets serious. As a character, I felt that Kiyotaka was an interesting character whose dual nature in the form of his two different personalities are what actually define him. Ippo started telling Miyata more similarities between him and Ricardo. Miyata told Ippo that he will fight him like a virtual Ricardo and asked if there is anything else on his mind. Ippo believed that Miyata and Sendō must be great friends since they are training together for a long time and must be talking about cats since they are cat people, irritating Miyata. Later, as Ippo and Kumi fish, the latter commented to the former how whoever he marries won't have to worry about side dishes, but Ippo believed that person would get tired of only eating fish. Ippo remembered what Mashiba told him the other night and wonders if Mashiba meant that when he becomes world champion, he will give him permission to be with his sister. Kumi announced to Ippo what she wants to resolve herself and hear a professional's opinion of what Rosario is like.
Ippo explained to Taihei to watch closely at the main event, as Mashiba's opponent, Iga, is his brother's objective. Ippo noted how Iga is a strong enough hurdle for Mashiba to show that he is ready for the world, remembering Fujii's report on how Baron said that Mashiba has three weaknesses. Ippo watched Mashiba's match against Iga with his two students. When Iga was trying to go in his own range, he used the Peek-a-Boo Style to dodge and block the Flicker Jabs. Ippo realised Iga's style is just like his and successfully predicted that Iga would get hit by an uppercut. After round one ended, Ippo witnessed Baron smacking Iga in the face. As Taihei and Kintarō became angry, Ippo guessed that it is how they won their matches. Ippo then told them that he got slapped by Kamogawa once in a match, but it was for encouragement, while Baron's reason is for winning. Ippo watched as Mashiba overcame his three weaknesses and defeat Iga, along with his coach announcing the relinquishment of the OPBF lightweight belt to move on to the world his next match. Because Mashiba claimed that Iga was short one weakness, Aoki and Kimura were trying to figure it out. Ippo mentioned that it was Miyata's ability to make Mashiba fearful.
