So, I actually think it makes sense Takemichi is the way he is, because, in the end, he's not a gang member like the others, he's just someone who found himself trapped in that world and adjusts to it realistically. On the other hand, the other characters grew up in those environments, so it makes sense that their individualities are marked by their physical strenght.
Concluding my review, I liked watching the anime, even thought I don't consider it a masterpiece, it's very good.
