Of course, all those people criticizing Jigokuraku are not necessarily wrong - the anime is neither the next Shawshank Redemption nor one of Christopher Nolan's mind-bending masterpieces. Therefore, if you are one of those pseudo-intellectuals who only enjoys watching galaxy-brain-teaser shows whose depth is solely based on conveying simple concepts and premises in an unnecessarily complicated way that makes you feel like a genius once you finally understand it, then you should probably skip this anime, for it will not cure your chronic insecurity or make . you feel better than the rest of the community in any way. However, for those whomst do realize they are essentially still watching children's/teen's cartoons, Jigokuraku is about as good as an anime show can get.
The story is fast-paced, captivating, and (most importantly) unpredictable.

However, after responding to a message from an unknown user, they are suddenly transported to Disboard. The mysterious sender turns out to be Tet, who informs them about the world's absolute rules. After Tet leaves, Sora and Shiro begin their search for more information and a place to stay, taking them to Elkia—Imanity's only remaining kingdom. There, the duo encounters Stephanie Dola, an emotional girl vying for the kingdom's sovereignty. In desperation, she attempts to regain her father's throne, but her foolhardiness makes her goal unachievable. Inspired by the girl's motivation and passion, Sora and Shiro decide to aid Stephanie in getting Elkia back on its feet, ultimately aiming to become the new rulers of the enigmatic realm. The original team that worked on the first two games had been disbanded, and Team Garapogos (a typical SNKgrish translation of Galapagos) was in charge of the series. Considering that the second Shodown game was praised as being one of the best fighting games of all time, there was intense pressure to deliver with the third game in the series. The changes made in the game were quite evident. Gone were some of the more campy characters such as Earthquake and Tam-Tam, and in was a new system called slash/bust (or chivalry/treachery). The slash/bust system was a play on the code of the samurai and allowed you to use slightly different versions of your chosen fighter. Other minor additions to the gameplay included air blocking, sidestepping/dodging, and POW charge. Although the changes in the game were for the better, many people felt that the series had fallen with Shodown III. Perhaps it was the change in theme or the absence of many fan favorites, but many gamers still feel this is one of the weaker installments in the series. Art of Fighting 3: The Path of a Warrior (1996, NeoGeo)
The final game in the Art of Fighting series had Robert Garcia as the star, shoving aside Ryo and his family problems. On the hunt for a woman named Freia, Robert traveled back to his homeland to answer some unsolved mysteries. It's easy to see why SNK ended the series here; just about all of the innovations that had been made were in the first game, and the last two installments did nothing to further the series.
But Re:Zero isn't something. It reaches for its dear, dear life, but remains in the end wholly unremarkable shounen fare interested more in shocking the viewer with gore and theatrics than in telling a genuinely meaningful story. Re:Zero may not be terrible and irredeemable, but it certainly struggles . throughout most of its twenty-five episodes to demonstrate that there is more to it than this. What is there in Subaru's tragic story that the audience can take with them at the end? What does it want to say? Not a whole lot, to be sure. Re:Zero is ambitious in mediocrity, notable only for its perverted sense of drama.
(Minor spoilers will follow from here, as it is near-impossible to discuss an anime like this without revealing anything. )
I have seen many people compare Re:Zero to Steins;Gate in the months since its airing. This is a great disservice to Steins;Gate.
