They're both Commoners, they both seek for equality between Nobels and Commoners, even if their reasons and methods for doing so are completely opposite (Desir seeks to prepare for the Shadow Labyrinth while Crow Mask has an intense hatred for Nobels and how Commoners are treated by them), and they are both willing to do whatever they have to to achieve their goals.
