Guts begins hunting down the Apostles to find and kill Griffith while followed by a demonic phantom called the Demon Child, which is actually Guts' and Casca's unborn child deformed by Femto's rape. Two years later, after having killed many Apostles and earning the nickname of "the Black Swordsman", Guts is joined by an elf named Puck. They are captured by Farnese, captain of the Holy See Church's Holy Iron Chain Knights, who believes Guts is a foretold harbinger of the apocalypse. Guts escapes after saving Farnese from specters, returning to an ailing Godo while learning that Casca wandered off. His search for her takes him to the ruined city of St. Albion, a city the Godhand have prepared as the site for an Incarnation ceremony to give one of their own a physical form, currently full of refugees fleeing the invading armies of the Kushan Empire. Guts saves Casca from the fanatical Holy See bishop Mozgus as the city descends into nightmarish chaos from the souls of the dead attacking. Joined by Farnese, her bodyguard Serpico, and a young thief named Isidro, Guts and Casca survive the ordeal as a misshapen apostle living under St. Albion ingests the dying Demon Child and uses its body to reconstitute Griffith into a physical form. Guts encounters Griffith and Zodd at Godo's home and they engage in battle; the nearby enchanted mine, which sheltered Casca from the nightly demon attacks, is destroyed by Zodd while Griffith realizes some lingering traces of the Demon Child persist within him. To try and find a means of restoring her mind, Guts decides to journey with Casca to Puck's homeland of Elfhelm, on the island of Skellig.

As an anime, it's important to also consider the artwork, and in this area the series fails even harder. Obviously anime allows a great deal of freedom in styles, but in all cases it has to "look right". It's not successful art if I'm distracted from the story because the drawings look wrong. There are several angles where the artist clearly cannot draw heads and they look bloated and misshapen. The men are all strange giants with spidery appendages that look like they would break if they bumped into anything. In several scenes, I noted the ratios were ridiculously wrong and it appeared that arms came out of a person's mid-section rather than the shoulder. Again, if I'm noticing these things instead of the nuances of the story, there's a problem in the delivery here. Another point I'd like to mention is that characters that frequently are supposed to look angry appear to be smiling. It looks stupid and completely destroys any semblance of intended drama in the scene.
It's certainly not the worst show I've seen (I can think of plenty of harem series that are worse, for example), but I'd steer clear of this one. He is also unexpectedly silent and stoic most of the time. He is incredibly intimidating, having a menacing aura that makes everyone around feel petrified. His mere presence is more than enough to make others be uncomfortable and nervous near to him. While most people are scared of him, fighters and martial artists greatly respect Yuujirou due to his supernatural strength viewing him as the pinnacle of power. He is considered by people as something more than a human and more like a creature or a force of nature that goes beyond human understanding. Yuujirou is feared to the point of USA granting him complete amnesty and even making a "contract" by the president that it has to be renewed every year. He is also ruthless, as shown when he ripped Kaiou Ryuu's face-off and then slammed his skinless face onto the stone floor. Another example would be when he killed Emi Akezawa by rupturing her eardrums and then breaking her spine. He is a very arrogant man, believing and knowing that he is the most vital living creature on Earth, and he feels inclined to do whatever he wants, with no one being able to stop him. He views everyone else as insects compared to him and sees them as "the weak". He believes that everything should be obtained with pure strength alone and therefore does not believe in using weapons.
