In the anime, Boruto accompanied Sasuke when he needed to look for a replacement messenger hawk, hoping to acquire a famed Senri Hawk. Upon meeting Maruta, who tended them, they learned Maruta couldn't risk taking them to the hawks habitat over concerns of being followed by Paradise representatives, dealers of rare and endangered animals who had began threatening him to acquire the hawks. When Sasuke visited Paradise under the pretence of being a customer, Boruto recognised Tentō in a photo, lending credence to their claim. When their leader Mozu Shitakiri admitted to being interested in the Senri Hawks, Boruto accused her of attacking Maruta's facility, though she pointed out they had no evidence. Mozu ordered them to leave, and gave them a warning to pass along to Maruta. The next day, while Maruta took Sasuke to the hawk habitat, Boruto stayed behind and ended up befriending Mozu's son Tsuzura, who was trying to readjust Yuki a rare white hawk to hunt in the wild. He offered to help, getting a book hawk rearing from Maruta's facility, and reading to him upon learning that Tsuzura's mother refused to teach him to read. Boruto began teaching him to read and write, and the two exchanged messages through Yuki. The next day, he continued helping Tsuzura, but was discovered by Mozu, who blamed him for putting ideas on his head, and whose underling threatened to arrest Boruto. Tsuzura left with Mozu to spare Boruto. Boruto is captured and confined.

While this is happening Wahlberg is having a talk with a student and explains that the difference between two-lined magicians and three-lined magicians is that the three-lined magicians are those chosen by god and that Rayne Ames is the first magician to become a three-lined magician at such a young age. When a three lined magician takes up his/her wand the wand shows it's true self. As Wahlberg is explaining, Margaret Macaron - who had been convinced of his win in the battle against Rayne Ames - is taken aback when he learns that Rayne is a three-lined magician, but after receiving his attack Margaret flees with his comrades and this time Mash comes out and thanks Rayne for defending him. A few days later before the start of the Divine Visionary Selection Exam Mash is confronted by Orter Maddle. The Exam supervisor explains what the exam is going to be about and begins the exam. 164"Mash Burnedead and the Brawny Balloon"

Their injuries also heal instantly, making them impossible to take down. Mash is asked to team up by Max, who can alter the size of objects. They locate the key inside a balloon-like bag made-up of the bladder of a Troll Swim-fish. They must inflate until it pops, but touching it causes an alarm that alerts and attracts the minotaur. Max enlarges the air hole while Mash, by breakdancing beneath it, creates a tornado powerful enough to force air inside and pop it. ^ "Declared bankruptcy to SNK, abolished civil rehabilitation proceedings". Everything that helps him become stronger is either served to him on a silver platter or overcome through some ridiculous newfound level of power. Through certain attributes Bell is rendered pretty much unbeatable and given an unfair boost of all other adventures. With that you say goodbye to almost all the tension this show creates within the dungeon. If something does hold Bell back it takes no time for him to find a way around it. Some methods he uses to do so are out of left field and not properly explained. When an explanation for them does arrive – very much out of the blue – it comes at a ridiculous moment.
