Learning that Wasabi and Namida were unconscious and infected with cursed seals, they requested Tosaka to help them with his expertise. After the genin reluctantly left the village, they found Sumire after she was knocked out Suigetsu, who insisted he acted in self-defence. When learning Suigetsu and Karin were looking for Jūgo, the genin explained that Jūgo was apprehended by the researchers. When Sumire awoke, she explained that two assailants who captured Wasabi Izuno and Namida Suzumeno had special collars that let them harness cursed seals of their own. Realising that this duo was working with the Land of Rivers' researchers, they concluding that the outbreak must have been started by them. Boruto facing Jūgo. As the group separated to handle parts of the rescue, Suigetsu joined Boruto in finding Jūgo. Locating Tosaka, he lead them to Jūgo, during which he subdued them with tranquillisers and revealed he was in league with the researchers and cursed seals operation. Friend reveals a new plan, a continuation of the Book of Prophecy, in which he plans to kill every human being on Earth except for sixty million of his followers, but he is then assassinated by his chief scientist Yamane. Following this, Friend's funeral becomes a worldwide spectacle, held in a stadium with the Pope giving the address. Partway through the service, Friend appears to rise from the dead, and is shot in the shoulder by his own assassin. By saving the Pope, Friend is elevated to deity like status. Meanwhile, there is a worldwide viral outbreak that threatens to kill everyone except those who have been vaccinated. The final portion of the story takes place in a newly remodeled Japan, under the "Era of Friend", who has instituted numerous bizarre changes, including the establishment of an Earth Defense Force, reputedly to protect Earth from an imminent alien invasion, exiling those without vaccinations, and forbidding travel across regions, under penalty of death.High School DxD was published from September 20, 2008, to March 20, 2018, across 25 volumes.
