jump right into the corner, he was surprised when Wally did not appear in the corner, as Wally grabbed onto the ropes and flung himself behind Ippo, hitting him. Seeing it a second time caused Ippo to panic and get hit. Ippo was unable to get him into the corner for some time as Wally's movements proved to be unpredictable and he was getting hit by unorthodox punches at the same time.
