He became a bacteriologist that worked with Kiriko for the Friends. already created an even more potent form of the virus. Although he tried to hide, Yamane receives a message from Friend to meet on New Years Day 2015. Realizing that he can not escape and expecting to be killed, Yamane goes to the meeting and shoots Fukubei, before being killed by the Friends immediately after. In the live-action film series, his full name is given as Akio Yamane (山根 昭夫, Yamane Akio).
