being undermined by a plethora of flaws and handled half-heartedly?
Vinland Saga is such a case. I do not consider this to be a great anime, let alone the AoTY; for all (or actually, because of) my love of medieval history, I couldn’t resist reviewing this too ambitious-for-its-own-good work.

. (-) The animation is simply put, lackluster. Audaciously lackluster.
And it shows early: at the first episode we are shown a flashback to a naval battle where Thors (the protagonist’s father) participates,
based on the Battle of Hjörungavágr.
When approached by a doll-like character claiming she possessed magical powers, Utena was thrilled. However, her dream turned into a nightmare when she was transformed into a villain.
Despite her aversion to evil, Utena's attempts to leave were thwarted by a group of magical girls who declared war. As the battle raged on, Utena discovered a sadistic side to herself that relished in causing pain.
Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete follows Utena as she embraces her role as a villainous leader, fighting against magical girls while indulging in her newfound sadism. Gushing Over Magical
