People do grow old and die. People do die for a reason. People do die for no reason. Some people may call FMA needlessly dark for a children's anime, but rather it's brutally honest. It's likely you will feel real pain. It's unlikely you'll forget the pain. Anyone we meet to whom a great misery befalls is so uniquely focused and blindly determined that the mechanics of his/her devastation become very clear. They seem proverbial, as though the Brothers Grimm were revived to create some of these characters. The series has enough fluff to get us through grim reality, but most of the time, it's really an opportunity to show how much heart many of the characters possess. It may seem odd for an anime centered around some teenage boys to have no sexual connotations whatsoever, but that'd just get in the way of the very strong emotions expressed in this anime. Friendship is the greatest form of love, and the one between the Alric Brothers is perhaps the greatest friendship in all of anime.

As of January 2020, DS is rated one of the best anime of all time on MAL and the #1 anime of all time on Kitsu. I'm dead serious! The kids on Kitsu truly think that this is the GOAT. Galactic Heroes? Ping Pong? Lain? Ashita no Joe? No! Fuck . that shit! Demon Slayer baby!
I went in expecting an action series SO epic that it blows your balls off and shoves them up your ass! I expected the love child of Hellsing Ultimate, Fist of the North Star, and Berserk with maybe some Shigurui and Violence Jack thrown in for good measure! The anime with SO much testosterone that Woody Allen could watch it and go into a Norse Berserker rampage, repeatedly bashing his head against a wall just to calm down!
What did I get? A very average shonen that looks pretty but is horribly written.

The Story The story so far. Eight hundred years ago, the world was protected by Eight Shinigami Legions, a group of dedicated to to preserving the world order. Led by the Grim Reaper himself, the group faced a betrayal by Death's own apprentice, who became a kishin and wrecked havoc on the world with his powers of insanity. Forced to be sealed away by his own master, the group disbanded. The Grim Reaper then founded Death Weapon Meister Academy (also by the acronym "DWMA") to act in it's place. Students within the school, enrolled as either meisters (users of demon weapons) or demon weapons (humans who can transform into weapons), are educated and supervised at a young age to prevent the uprising of another kishin while upholding the responsibility of fighting against the forces of evil and the collection of souls of the deceased. Those of the N. O.
"Soul Eater" which looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie, has a unique style. The dark backgrounds with a gloomy scenery develop the perfect mood for its horror genre. The animation is highly convincing, with each and every location fitting the world established by the show. In addition to the narrative, let's also talk about the character designs. Maka, Black Star, and Kid are all easy on the eyes, and their appearances are equally captivating. Well, the cheap action scenes that are brought forward by the dramatic camera angles can feel a bit out of place at times, but over all it is a real treat to look at.
And the music? Oh, it's killer. The opening and ending themes pack a punch, perfectly complementing the gothic visuals. The hard rock soundtrack adds another layer of depth to the darker themes of the show. All in all, "Soul Eater" nails it when it comes to audio.
