During their journey, Sailor Moon and her friends meet Sailor Pluto, Guardian of the Time-Space Door. During the climactic battle of the arc, Sailor Pluto dies trying to save the sailor soldiers and Chibiusa was brainwashed by the enemy and turned into the Black Lady, but was eventually reformed and awakens as a Guardian herself—Sailor Chibi Moon. The third arc introduces car-racer Haruka Tenoh and violinist Michiru Kaioh, who appear as Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, whose duty is to guard the Solar System against external threats. Physics student Setsuna Meioh, Sailor Pluto's reincarnation, joins Uranus and Neptune in their mission to kill a mysterious girl named Hotaru Tomoe, whom they identify as the Guardian of Destruction Sailor Saturn. However, when Saturn awakens she joins the final fight against the main antagonists of the arc, the Death Busters, sacrificing her life in the process. With her newly obtained powers as Super Sailor Moon, Usagi restores the Earth and Hotaru is reincarnated as a baby.

[21] A special 55-page one-shot chapter, to celebrate the series' 21st anniversary, was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump on January 29, 2024. [22][23][24] An English translation of the manga was published in North America by Viz Media under the Shonen Jump Advanced label between April 5, 2005, and October 4, 2011. [25][26][27] The manga has also been licensed in some countries such as in France by Glénat,[28] in Hong Kong by Culturecom,[29] in Indonesia by Elex Media Komputindo,[30] in Italy by Panini Comics,[31] in South Korea by Daewon Media,[32] and in Taiwan by Tong Li Publishing. [33] Original video animations[edit] Main article: List of Eyeshield 21 episodes § OVAs Two original video animations (OVA) based on the Eyeshield 21 manga series were developed. The first one, named The Phantom Golden Bowl[Jp 1], was developed by Production I. G and shown as part of the Jump Festa Anime Tour in September 2003 and in Jump Festa 2004. [34] The second OVA, titled Eyeshield 21: Christmas Bowl e no Michi – Minami no Shima de Tokkun da! YA-HA!! –[Jp 2], was shown at Jump Festa 2005. [35] The two OVAs were later released on DVD; the first was released with the second OVA of Naruto in a compilation called Jump Festa 2004 Super DVD. [36] The other was released by Bandai Visual as an extra track on the sixth DVD of the Eyeshield 21 anime series. [35] Television series[edit] Main article: List of Eyeshield 21 episodes The Eyeshield 21 anime adaptation was co-produced by TV Tokyo, NAS, and Gallop,[37][38] and was directed by Masayoshi Nishida until episode 103, and by Shin Katagai from 104 to 145. [39] The series of 145 television episodes aired in Japan from April 6, 2005, to March 19, 2008, on TV Tokyo.
[49] A total of 62 episodes of Hunter × Hunter were broadcast on the Japanese terrestrial television network Fuji Television from October 16, 1999 to March 31, 2001 during the same Saturday evening timeslot as the anime version of Togashi's previous series YuYu Hakusho. [3][50][51] Additionally, Hunter × Hunter has aired on the satellite television station Animax. [52][53] Although it closely follows the manga, the violence in the anime version is lessened for younger audiences. [3] Marvelous Entertainment has released all episodes of the series in Japan on DVD in 13 separate volumes between September 20, 2000 and September 19, 2001. [54] Viz Media licensed the Hunter × Hunter anime for distribution in the Region 1 market, with English voice-work handled by the Ocean Group at Blue Water Studios in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. [11][55] The series was released on four DVD boxed sets from December 9, 2008 to December 1, 2009. [56][57] Starting with the second set, Viz partnered with Warner Home Video to distribute the DVDs. [58] Hunter × Hunter began airing in the United States on the Funimation Channel in the spring of 2009. [59] Original Video Animations When the Hunter × Hunter anime covered most of its source material by 2001, Nippon Animation made the decision to end the adaptation rather than continue it with filler. [60] Due to fans' unsatisfied reactions to the conclusion of the television series, three subsequent OVAs were produced by Nippon Animation. These carried the plot from where the broadcast left off during the Yorknew City arc and covered the Greed Island arc.
