large ROM chips that fit into an entire chip slot. Most bootlegs use tiny ROM chips that occupy only the middle of the slot. Unlike the fighting games that were so typical of the MVS/AES, Metal Slug was a side-scrolling platform game with a military theme and a hilarious cartoon
style that proved popular to a decidedly wide audience. After purchasing Nazca, the game's original developer, SNK would go on to publish four more Metal Slug sequels.
