Review by Pachinko Pop ★★★ Based on an early short by Eiichiro Oda that is later referenced in ONE PIECE. It looms large in fans’ minds because of this, but I’ve always felt that its literal connection to the continuity of the series was oversold by folks. A symptom of Wiki Brain Poisoning. This anime short aims to more
concretely connect the two, and it does a fine job. This is noteworthy for being a non-Toei production, and it looks alright. The character designs have an Oda tinge, but are a bit more generic. There are some
exciting bits of stylistic flourishes in moments of action, and some nice color design. I liked the music as well. The
pacing is odd. At
times it feels.
