Monsters was written by Eiichiro Oda before creating his life-defining work, and you can see how this one-shot went on to inspire it. I mean, the main character is literally just Zoro (in more ways than one), and the way the plot plays out just like an arc of the series would. At times, Monsters almost feels like the One Piece that never was, and as a massive fan of the series, I appreciate that. It’s also great to see Oda’s art style adapted by a studio other than Toei (If I remember correctly, this is only the second time in the history of the franchise.
