Ippo claimed he isn't confident, since he threw his plan all together so fast and isn't sure if he can even moderate it right, as well as being uneasy about if he can keep from injuring him. The coach mentioned he heard a rumour that he cracked Volg's ribs while in Mexico, which meant Ippo can fight against a current world champion on
equal footing, so he asked for him to get in the ring. Ippo and Mashiba entered the ring with headgear, and the former took off the weight straps on his wrists and gave it to his second, Itagaki. The three-round spar began. Ippo took on the Peek-a-Boo Style, while Mashiba used the Hitman Style and threw Flicker Jabs at the quickly approaching Ippo. Mashiba noticed by Ippo's right leg in front that he is
doing the southpaw style. Ippo passed by many Flicker Jabs and got close to Mashiba, however, Mashiba increased the
speed of the Flicker Jabs, making Ippo fly back as they hit his guard. Mashiba hit Ippo's guard with a Chopping Right that knocked him to the ropes. As Ippo moved toward Mashiba again, feeling as if he hasn't been helpful yet, Itagaki got between them. Itagaki pointed out Ippo forgot to take the weight straps off his legs, so Itagaki took them off. Ippo advised Mashiba to pay attention to what he does, as he is certain this exact scenario will happen when he fights Rosario.
