It is based on Eiichiro Oda's manga series of the same name. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as the "One Piece" in order to become the next Pirate King. Since its premiere in Japan, more than 1,000 episodes have been aired, and later exported to various countries around the world. Meanwhile, Gwi-nam sacrifices several survivors to escape the kitchen. Cheong-san's mother goes to the school in search of her son. Firefighter and On-jo's father, Nam So-ju, his crew, assemblywoman Park Eun-hee, and several other government officials are trapped inside a government building. Pregnant student Park Hee-su gives birth in a public bathroom stall and flees with the baby as zombies begin to overrun the city. However, she is bitten and hides inside Cheong-san's family restaurant, tying herself out of the baby's reach before succumbing to the infection. The citywide outbreak prompts government forces - led by commander Jin Seon-moo - to declare martial law as they begin evacuating survivors.
[17] Otomo painted the cover illustration of the first volume very thick, while its inside cover illustration was influenced by Tetsuji Fukushima's manga Sabaku no Maō and how he used colors like American comics. [17] Because the first volume had a "hot" red cover, Otomo felt volume two should have a "cool" one. Its back cover image was created using video, and he said he ruined Kodansha's VCR by repeatedly changing the color balance to get it right. Following the American and European cover images of the previous two volumes, Otomo felt the third should have an Asian one and so included the signs in its background. Its back cover is a composite photograph taken during a race at the Tokyo Racecourse when an image of Akira was shown on the jumbotron. Because the first three images had followed a pattern of "action-silence-action," the artist figured volume four should continue it and so drew Akira sitting down for the cover.
