Samurai Champloo (Japanese: サムライチャンプルー, Hepburn: Samurai Chanpurū) is a Japanese animated television series which aired 26 episodes between May 2004 and March 2005. [1][2][3] Set during Japan's Edo period, the story follows three characters – tea waitress Fuu, vagrant outlaw Mugen, and ronin Jin – as they travel the country in search of a samurai who smells of sunflowers. [4][5] The series was created and directed by Shinichirō Watanabe and produced by Manglobe. [1] The character designer and
animation director was Kazuto Nakazawa, with the series story created by Shinji Obara and Yukihiko Tsutsumi of Office Crescendo. The scripts were written by Obara, Dai Satō, Touko Machida, Keiko Nobumoto,
Seiko Takagi, Ryota Sugi, Nakazawa and Watanabe. [6][7][8] The first seventeen episodes of Samurai Champloo premiered on Fuji TV on May 20, 2004, with its broadcast being cancelled on September 9. [2][9][10] The series, complete with the remaining episodes referred to as a "second season", was broadcast on BS Fuji from January 22 to March 19, 2005. [3][11][12] It saw subsequent international broadcast on Adult Swim (United States),[13] Razer (Canada),[14] SBS TV (Australia),[15][16] Animax (mainland Asia),[17] and Viceland (United Kingdom). [18] The series was first released on DVD by Victor Entertainment through its JVC label across thirteen volumes between August 21, 2004, and August 25, 2005. [19] A complete collection was released for DVD and Blu-ray in July 2011. [20] In North America, Geneon Entertainment published the series on seven volumes between January 11 and January 17, 2006.
The game initially launched with 28 songs, with around
four new songs added per month to the game; as of December 2021, a total of 146 songs are included. The tracklist mainly consists of Vocaloid songs or those from Vocaloid producers, with most songs having two versions: the original version (or new versions specifically made for the game; named "Virtual Singer version" in-game), and SEKAI versions, having the song covered by the original characters, and sometimes joined by a Virtual Singer. Some songs also have a 3D MV or animated MV, with animated MVs either
being newly created for the game (named "2D MV" in-game) or original. Songs without an MV are played with a static 2D background. Development[edit] The game was first announced on August 30, 2019, at Magical Mirai 2019. [11][12] The development is done by the Colorful Palette, a newly established subsidiary of Craft Egg (who is already known for another rhythm game: BanG Dream! Girls Band Party).
