A manga adaptation illustrated by Kazuomi Minatogawa has been serialized on ASCII Media Works' Dengeki PlayStation Comic Web website since December 2019, with its chapters collected into five tankōbon volumes as of August 2023. An anime television series adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment and animated by Millepensee aired from April to June 2023. A new anime project has been announced. Plot[edit] Yūya Tenjo is an overweight, short and meek middle school student who is bullied at school and tormented by his family, except for his grandfather who is the only person who
cares for him. When his grandfather dies and leaves Yūya as the sole heir of his house, his parents expel him from home, and he is forced to live there alone. Inside his grandfather's house, Yūya discovers a portal to another world, where he obtains the power to change his life forever. Characters[edit] Yūya Tenjō (天上 優夜, Tenjō Yūya) Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka[2] (Japanese); Lee George[3] (English) The main protagonist, he was tormented by both his classmates and his family for his ugliness and obesity, which are caused by some genetic deficiency. He inherits his grandfather's house, where he finds a portal to another world. After killing a powerful monster using the weapons he found in the house, Yūya grows stronger, taller and handsome, and obtains special powers by defeating enemies like in a video game. Because his previous isolation made him a loner and shut-in, he is both very self-conscious about his
improvements and quite ignorant of the effects they - especially his new,
improved looks and charisma - have on his environment. He travels back and forth between both worlds, using his newly obtained
skills to improve himself, gaining a lot of notoriety and making friends and enemies along the way, Kaori Hōjō (宝城 佳織, Hōjō Kaori) Voiced by: Akari Kitō[2] (Japanese); Kelsey Maher[3] (English) Daughter of the chairman of the prestigious Ōsei Academy and a student council member.

Finally, 86 is one of the shows
that I've had a different experience from the others recently. It's a great production, with great scene executions and animation composition, but it can't fool us.
It's not because it's a pretty show that makes it easy to be liked. Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen, for example, even with their amazing animations, have some reason to exist. I hope that 86 has its reason to exist too. Whether this is going to take a while is something to be discussed in a second season, which is coming soon. We hope that the show continues and that it has greater courtesy and greater representation in current animes, it's a good title that certainly deserves its space in 2021. Others are an honest adaptation, but an adaptation is all they are. Then, there are those that, quite frankly, are just straight up overrated.
