At times, Monsters almost feels like the One Piece that never was, and as a massive fan of the series, I appreciate that. It’s also great to see Oda’s art style adapted by a studio other than Toei (If I remember correctly, this is only the second time in the history of the franchise. We don't get to see much of who Ryuma is as a person other than he hungry and he good at sword. Which, fair for a one-shot in the 90s that pre-dates the author's most well known creation (I. E. the best selling manga and 2nd best selling overall comic of all-time) and just needs to be a quick one-off fun thing for.
