and Shueisha halted OVA/manga shipments of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure after a complaint had been launched against them from Egyptian Islamic fundamentalists, after noticing a scene in the OVAs that has the villain, Dio Brando, reading a book depicting pages from the Qur'an. [46][47] This recall affected the English-language release of the manga as well, causing Viz Media and Shueisha to cease publication for a year. Additionally, the OVAs were pulled altogether, and there are currently no plans to re-release them anywhere. Even though the manga did not feature that specific scene, Shueisha had Araki redraw scenes that depicted characters fighting on top of, and destroying, mosques. [46] See also[edit] JoJo's Bizarre Adventure – An earlier OVA adaptation, 13 episodes released in two parts. The first 6 episodes were released during 1993–1994 and the later (but narratively earlier) 7 episodes were released during 2000–2002 by Studio APPP.

[179] The number of sales have reached 30 million in 2022. [180] Critical response[edit] Richard Eisenbeis of Kotaku hails Sword Art Online as the smartest series in recent years, praising its deep insight on the psychological aspects of virtual reality on the human psyche, its sociological views on creating a realistic economy and society in a massively multiplayer online game setting, and the writing staff's ability to juggle a wide variety of genres within the series. [181] Eisenbeis particularly noted how the romance between Kirito and Asuna is explored bringing "definition to exactly what love is like in a virtual world. "[181] However, at the time of this preliminary review, he had only watched the first 12 episodes of the series. [181] He has since gone on to review the second half of the series, lauding its excellent use of plot twists and praising its well-written and believable villain.
The powerhouses of this genre are on top because they actually have basic story lines that drive the show forward. Isekai Ojisan would be so much better if it just gave us something to care about. By the end, we were just going through the motions to finish it and be done with it. That's bad story telling.
Animation 8/10
- Unique to a degree, and beautifully drawn at times, with no CGI I believe? If so, very hard to notice. Mabel scenes were peak.
Sound 7/10
- Decent OP, forgettable ED, with good voice acting.
Story 5/10
- Beyond episodic storytelling, there is no plot. It's an uncle watching TV of his past with his nephew and the nephews' friend for 13 episodes.
Characters 8/10
- Really enjoyable characters through and through, but without something at stake, Mabel, Sui, and Uncle are wasted IMO.
Enjoyment 7/10
- Enjoyed the comedy, but the series as a whole fell flat due to a lack of any story development.
