In the anime, Boruto accompanied Sasuke when he needed to look for a replacement messenger
hawk, hoping to acquire a famed Senri Hawk. Upon meeting Maruta, who tended them, they learned Maruta couldn't risk taking them to the hawks habitat over concerns of being followed by Paradise representatives, dealers of rare and endangered animals who had began threatening him to acquire the hawks. When Sasuke visited Paradise under the pretence of being a customer, Boruto recognised Tentō in a photo, lending credence to their claim. When their leader Mozu Shitakiri admitted to being
interested in the Senri Hawks, Boruto accused her of attacking Maruta's facility, though she pointed out they had no evidence. Mozu ordered them to leave, and gave them a warning to pass along to Maruta. The next day, while Maruta took Sasuke to the hawk habitat, Boruto stayed behind and ended up befriending Mozu's son Tsuzura, who was trying to readjust Yuki a rare white hawk to hunt in the wild. He offered to help, getting a book hawk rearing from Maruta's facility, and reading to him upon learning that Tsuzura's mother refused to teach him to read. Boruto began teaching him to read and write, and the two exchanged messages through Yuki. The next day, he continued helping Tsuzura, but was discovered by Mozu, who blamed him for putting ideas on his head, and whose underling threatened to arrest Boruto. Tsuzura left with Mozu to spare Boruto. Boruto is captured and confined.
