Continuing the awesome combination that made Metal Slug famous was this sequel, which was released two years after the first game. Unlike the first Metal Slug, which had some traditional locations (jungle, urban battlefield), Metal Slug 2
threw all preconceived notions about how a shooter should function out the window. This became evident in just the second level of the game, where you had to battle the undead. If you came in contact with their poisonous spew, instead of dying you would turn into an undead minion yourself, incapable of using any special weapons. Things definitely took a turn for the weird in Metal Slug 2. Whereas you fought against guerrilla
militants in the first game, in this game you eventually had to take on aliens hell bent on invading Earth.
