The character's original given name was revealed in chapter 259 as "Maruta Shiga. " "Maruta" refers to the code-name for human experimentation undertaken by the Imperial Japanese Army's Unit 731 during the Second Sino-Japanese War of World War II. The Chinese victims of the experiments were called "maruta," the Japanese word for "logs" as a reference to the facilities cover story that it was a lumber mill. Victims, including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and the mentally handicapped, were purposefully infected with diseases, dissected, lobotomized, and amputated while still alive. ^ Loveridge, Lynzee (February 5, 2020). Side characters that received incomplete characterization, such as Zanoba and Cliff, were set up to be reused in the latter parts of the story. On paper, this seems like a fairly simple decision to make that clears a pretty low bar of establishing your side characters to a great extent before you make them do important things in the plot, but you’d be surprised. Many anime skip this simple step that honestly gives out pure brownie points to viewers who consume the entire series.
Time to address the elephants in the room.
The second season of the Mushoku Tensei is arguably more polarizing than the first season. No, no, no, I’m not referring to polarization between the people that think Mushoku Tensei is fucking disgusting and the people who ignore those possibility disgusting elements to enjoy a nuanced narrative, I’m referring to polarization between people that liked the first season of Mushoku Tensei but can’t decide if the second season is amazing or dogshit. From the recommended tag, the 10/10 rating, or just the content of this review, you probably can ascertain my position on the matter, so I’m going to make an effort to defend it.
“The animation is worse and they clearly didn’t put in enough effort/ the production quality sucks!!”
Congratulations. You have officially downgraded from a Ferrari to a Ferrari that has driven 4 miles outside of the dealership. The animation is slightly worse in some spots and slightly less detailed than before in others. It’s not that noticeable, and I could only see it being jarring to viewers watching side by side with content from the first season. I am sure this is far more relatable to the average modern viewer than the days when shonen characters were training in lethal martial arts over a pit of lava. So yeah, Jujutsu Kaisen is yet another run of the mill action fest that does not deserve its popularity and it’s certainly not reinventing the wheel when it comes to shonen. 10 See all reviews Related anime same franchise Jujutsu Kaisen (2018) 2018-12-03 - 2018-12-08 Web: 3 ep Juju Sanpo 2020-10-17 - 2020-12-01 Web: 21 ep Eve: Kaikai Kitan 2020-11-20 - 2020-11-20 Music Video: 1 ep Who-ya Extended: VIVID VICE 2021-01-29 - 2021-01-29 Music Video: 1 ep Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Prequel 2021-12-24 - 2021-12-24 Movie Jujutsu Kaisen 2nd Season Sequel 2023-07-06 - 2023-12-28 TV: 23 ep Related manga same franchise Jujutsu Kaisen 0 2017-04-28 - 2018-07-28 Vol: 1 - Ch: 4 Jujutsu Kaisen Original Manga 2018-03-05 - - ? Yuji Itadori is a compassionate high school student who, despite his innate athletic talent, prefers to join the Occult Research Club instead of the track team because of the independence that it offers. After the sparring session, Ippo learned from Miyata that he has something new and that during his fight in the semi-finals, he would show how he stepped up to the challenge just as Ippo did during the Sawamura match. Walking back to the Kamogawa gym, Ippo mentioned to Kamogawa how Eagle seemed like a hero. After seeing Takamura outside the Kamogawa gym hitting children who asked for an autograph, Ippo deemed Takamura to be pure evil. The day before the event, Ippo went to the Yokohama Arena and attended Takamura and Eagle's weigh-in, along with Aoki and Kimura's weigh-in with Papaya Dachiu and Eleki Battery respectfully. The next day, Ippo went to the Yokohama Arena and met coaches Date and Okita, who's boxer got defeated. Ippo then went to encourage Aoki and Kimura before their matches, telling the two that he was also nervous when he was the semi-final for Takamura's match against Hawk, but he just did what he did as always.
