Ippo was emotional about Date's loss which sent him to the hospital, and at the Kamogawa gym, told Takamura and the others to not mention Date's possibility of retirement. Fujii entered the gym and revealed that Date was awake with no brain damage and that he is able to speak in short durations. Takamura advised for Ippo to go see him, claiming that there was a meaning to it.
