Fazit: Als Sequel/Prequel zu One Piece bzw. einer bestimmten Figur völlig in Ordnung. Ob’s da jetzt noch weiter geht, weiß ich zwar nicht, würde es mir aber dann doch aufgrund der Lore wünschen. Monsters was written by Eiichiro Oda before creating his life-defining work, and you can see how this one-shot went on to inspire it. I mean, the main character is literally just Zoro (in more ways than one), and the way the plot plays out just like an arc of the series would. At times, Monsters almost feels like the One Piece that never was, and as a massive fan of the series, I appreciate that. It’s also great to see Oda’s art style adapted by a studio other than Toei (If I remember correctly, this is only the second time in the history of the franchise.

At the end of the duel, "Hanma's blood" wakes up in Baki and he almost breaks the neck of the Chinese fighter. Baki seems to be in a murderous mood and the smile on his face resembles that of Yuujirou. But after a while, he starts to control himself again. Ultimately, Retsu survives but loses the battle. Yuujirou meets with Baki after the battle and shows him his disappointment about Baki's merciful tenderness. Baki during his fight with Jack Hammer. Ultimately, Baki gets to the tournament final where his last enemy is his Jack Hammer. In the arena, Jack reveals his true identity and it turns out that he is the brother of Baki. Both fighters shake hands and promise to do their best during the battle. Both competitors use their best techniques against each other.
